When Nic approached me about creating a set of images to celebrate her 40th birthday and to symbolise a new beginning after the decade of challenges that she had overcome, I was moved by her story and excited to work with her and bring the idea to life.
After seeing the impact of her photos and story on other women and the hope and inspiration they instilled in those facing similar trials, it was a no-brainer when she asked if I’d like to come on board with Hope Emerges project. This meant spending time with other women who have had to face and overcome the physical and emotional challenges of Cancer. It was talking to them about their trials, their successes, their interests, what inspires them and most importantly what makes them happy. Meeting and working with Nic, Rosemary, Carol and Anna was one of the highlights of my year.
Each woman exuded such courage and sincerity, their scars, a constant reminder of what they have faced or continue to face on their journeys of recovery. I was forever moved by the sense of venerability I saw behind their eyes, a venerbility that every one of us have by simply being human, but which we cannot truly appreciate until we have been pushed to the limits of our being. I would like to thank these four beautiful, brave women for sharing their stories and in doing so, helping other women know that they are not alone.x
