An Update from Carol: My Nipple Reconstruction

On the 26th September, exactly a year to the date of my mastectomy I had my final nipple tattoo (2nd of two) – and it looks amazing!! I feel I have been very fortunate with my journey. I have had the amazing privilege of receiving a scholarship from the Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation and support from Breast Cancer Aotearoa Coalition to attend this years world leading, international Breast Cancer Symposium in San Antonio (The San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium). Pinktober is here, and the Hope Emerges Project is nearly a year old, and I thought I would take a moment to reflect on how all this came to be. Back in 2005, I was diagnosed with Her2+, stage 3 breast cancer when I was 31.   It’s that time of year when everything starts turning pink and the boobs come out for a very good cause – reminding women to be vigilant and look for signs of changes in their breasts. It’s the cheapest and best way of getting an early diagnosis if breast cancer does arise.
